Mathematics
For a calculated journey through life
At Woodlands, we are developing our learning environments so that children have access to concrete manipulatives when they need to through 'choose it and use it' stations.
We recognise the importance of teaching children to use a wide range of mathematical vocabulary and are developing our 'Talk like a mathematician' displays. Can you spot a mini version of our maths leader, Mrs Lansdown on this display?
As well as learning key number facts, we recognise that children need to free up working memory space when problem-solving. Whilst they are working to become fluent using learn key skills and methods, we are developing the use of mathematical learning journals from year 2 to year 6.
Our skills progression document ensures that the learning planned for the children builds upon their prior knowledge.
Please click on a copy of our calculation policy below to find out about how the methods are taught at Woodlands.
