Character Education
Character education develops the whole child as lifelong learners. We offer a wide variety of curricular and extracurricular activities to provide character education, including: subject lessons, dedicated character education assemblies, sports, performance arts clubs, outward bound trips and camp, extracurricular clubs and visitors.
These opportunities help young people to explore and express their character and build the skills they need for resilience, empathy and employability.
Main goals: -to create lifelong motivated learners

- to build courage, honesty, generosity, integrity, humility, a sense of justice, emotional intelligence and a moral compass
- to develop social confidence
- to set long-term goals to live a successful and fulfilled life
Research suggests that teaching character education lead to children developing character traits which can improve educational attainment, increased self belief, motivation, resilience, self-control, greater well-being, engagement with school and attendance.
At Woodlands, we provide many opportunities to develop our character, here are just a flavour:
Bristol Sports Coacher who develop PE, health and well-being
Trips such as Hampton Court, Slimbridge, SS Great Britain, Brecon Beacons, Caerleon, Local church, Concorde museum and Wild Place
Visitors such as Professional Basketball players, Theatre companies, Fire Brigade, Taekwondo, UWE, Christian assembly team, Yate Heritage Centre and Children's University.
Our assemblies cover topics such as Kindness, resilience, Self-esteem, Equality, British values, Anti-bullying, Empathy, Courage, Gratitude, Perseverance, Integrity, Humility, Team work and Open mindedness. Please see our assembly planner attached below.
Children may join Woodlands University and have all their wider learning recognised each year. Children collect hours and graduate at the end of each school year. Children can collect hours for home learning, family trips, school clubs and school set tasks and projects.
